Metal Gear Solid is back and this time, you can take it with you anywhere you go.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker hits this week, and it will be the first game in the series directed by Hideo Kojima to be seen on a portable platform.
Peace Walker takes place before the original Metal Gear Solid and after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. The game is set in Costa Rica during the Cold War in 1974, and gamers will again take on the role of Naked Snake.

During last year’s Tokyo Game Show, Kojima said that even though Solid Snake’s storyline has been completed, both Naked and Liquid Snake still have stories to tell.
“Solid Snake’s storyline has ended with MGS4,” Kojima said “But there’s still a lot more when it comes to Naked Snake’s storyline. The Cold War was a time where people, neither good nor evil, were manipulated by various factors, and they became good or evil. The same goes for Liquid Snake, and we’ll get to see just what happened to him.”
Both Gamestop and Amazon have Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bundles that include the game, a specially designed PSP, a Memory Stick PRO Duo and other goodies. Check the bottom of the article for more details, and those interested can head over to either the Amazon or Gamestop website.
Otherwise, gamers can expect to see Peace Walker in stores on Tuesday, June 8.
While the portable platforms and the PC dominate game releases this week, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii fans can suit up with Tiger for 18 holes in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 or sit down with Green Day in the next Rock Band.
Gamers that have been waiting to rock out to “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” or “Wake Me Up When September Ends” only have a few more days. Green Day: Rock Band features over 47 tracks that span the band’s entire career, including two full albums, Dookie and American Idiot.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool are playable as their virtual selves when Green Day: Rock Band hits shelves on June 8.
As the fifth game in the Rock Band series, Green Day: Rock Band takes elements from several of the games before it and mixes them together, providing players with a similar yet more rewarding experience.

Harmonies, first introduced in The Beatles: Rock Band, made their way into Green Day: Rock Band, allowing multiple singers to perform vocal portions of the game, as well as a “no fail” mode carried over from Rock Band 2, that lets players complete a song regardless of their performance.
For hardcore fans looking for even more Green Day, major retailers are selling a Green Day: Rock Band PLUS edition for only an additional $10.
The PLUS edition includes six additional song tracks, including “21 Guns” and “Viva la Gloria!” and a free disc export to transfer all songs from the game into your existing Rock Band game library. The PLUS edition is only available for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles.
If playing air guitar isn’t your thing, gamers can look ahead to the next installment of Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
Since 1998, Tiger Woods has been featured as the face of EA Sports premiere golf-simulation game; this year is no exception.
With more precise controls, graphical enhancements and featured game modes than you can shake a golf club at, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 brings players closer to the action than ever before.
Whether gaming on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii, gamers are now able to compete in the Ryder Cup. This biennial battle between the United States and Europe will allow golfers to lead their team in pursuit of bragging rights and the coveted Ryder Cup trophy.
The gametype is available offline, as well as in 12 versus 12 Online Team Play, allowing players to participate in better ball, alternate shot and match play on The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales, the setting for this year’s Ryder Cup tournament.
PGA Tour 11 also attempts to offer an ever more realistic golf experience through the implementation of TrueAim. Players will now only see what a real golfer on a golf course would see, such as mile markers instead of a computer generated distance meter.

TrueAim also implements a more realistic camera angle. After a shot has been taken, the camera locks to the golfer rather than the ball like in previous versions, forcing gamers to question the outcome of their shot and listen to the crowd’s reaction for confirmation.
Similar to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Wii players can use Wii MotionPlus, and will also be able to choose from two new swing modes: advance plus and tour pro. The Wii version also has miniature golf and online disc golf modes available to those looking for a more laid back experience.
Gamers can swing back into action as Tiger this Tuesday, June 8.
Must See of the Week!
After some wonderful attempts at a “Sleeper of the Week,” foiled by reviews and reviewers alike (Backbreaker, I’m looking at you), this segment will now include games, bundles, items or even news that gamers should definitely check on, titled the “Must See of the Week!”
This week’s must see: the 250 GB Playstation 3 Father’s Day Bundle. This bundle, sold exclusively on Amazon, will feature a 250 GB PS3 Slim console, LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year edition, a black Dualshock 3 controller and an HDMI cable – all for $350.
Now, instead of rushing to your friendly neighborhood Radioshack or tacking on an extra $20, buyers can now experience HD gaming right out of the box in 720p or 1080p resolution (an HDTV is still needed for this to work), so no more of those red, white and yellow cables.

The bundle, as stated above, also includes one of the most social and creative games on any console, LittleBigPlanet. Sporting a 95 out of 100 rating on Gamerankings and Metacritic, the Game of the Year edition also includes extras not found in the original game, the Amazon website states. These bonuses include:
- Collect over 500 objects, stickers, tools and costumes as resources for your own levels.
- Over 1 million user generated levels to play.
- 18 new bonus levels designed by actual LBP community members.
- Free costume and level packs including the Metal Gear Solid level pack.
So, if you have been procrastinating on whether to buy a PS3 or not, it seems like this deal could help you decide once and for all.
If you’re scanning this article before the release date of the games below, make sure to check out the Amazon and Gamestop websites. The sites frequently offer competing bonuses, goodies and free gift cards or coupons for pre-ordering games.
The full list of releases is listed below for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo Wii, PSP, Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS; although releases are still subject to change at any time. Check back next week for more promotional offers and game releases.
