It’s time for Colorado State University-Pueblo Homecoming. This year it’s even more exciting because we have a homecoming football game to go to, and the events leading up to it have more appeal because of the game, including a Hollywood-themed semi-formal Homecoming dance.

Spirit week kicks off Monday with Toga/Greek day. Students are encouraged to wrap themselves in sheets or their Greek best. Following that is Beach/ Hawaiian day on Tuesday, and students are encouraged to come to school dressed in Hawaiian shirts, skirts and wear leis, or get creative, as long as it’s beach or Hawaiian-themed. 

On Wednesday, students are expected to get ready for the dance and try to get a date by letting others know if they are single, taken or in-between. To do this, students who are single should wear green, those who are in-between should wear yellow and people who are taken should wear red.

Thursday is Hollywood movie day and students are encouraged to dress as their favorite movie stars or characters. Thursday night is the semi-formal Hollywood Premier dance, CSU-Pueblo edition. The dance will be held in the new recreation center from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Friday is spirit day and students should wear their CSU-Pueblo colors. Friday night is the pep rally, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. east of the soccer field, followed by a bon fire. The Homecoming King and Queen will be revealed at the pep rally, said Larisa Swope-Bryson, ASG Senator of CEEPS and sophomore, Spanish/Political Science major.

The final six nominees for King and Queen were announced Monday, she said. They were interviewed on Rev 89 twice Monday and Rev has been promoting the event since voting for king and queen began, said Mike Atencio, Rev 89 station manager. Nominations were done by students, for students, Swope-Bryson said. Nominees had to be in their second year, have a 2.0 GPA and be involved in a student organization, she said.

The final three nominees for Homecoming Queen are Marquita Starks junior, nursing major; Laurie Pierce senior, mass communications major; and Brandi Swing junior, sociology/criminology major.

The final three nominees for Homecoming King are Todd Anderson junior, mass communications major; TJ Hardney junior, EXHP major; and Brian Henley senior, EXHP major, Swope-Bryson said.

Rev 89 will also be broadcasting from the bon fire from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Atencio said.

Homecoming Spirit week is sponsored by the Associated Students’ Government and the Office of Student Activities, Swope-Bryson said.
