Jesse Lewis, the Thunderwolves 165-pound running back, made a total of three touchdowns, the first of which being within the first seven minutes of the first-quarter.
When asked what Lewis was thinking when he made his first touchdown he replied, “I’m just doing my best and trying to provide for my team.”
During halftime sophomores Jazmine Wells of Montbello, and Eddie Watson of Centennial were crowned Homecoming Queen and King.
Lewis rushed for a total of 181 yards throughout the entire game helping the ThunderWolves win this Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game.
“To prepare for the homecoming game we practiced long hours and on Wednesday it was a tough practice because the weather was so bad,” said Lewis.
The Mountaineers did take a fumble from the ThunderWolves and scored on that 1-yard run.
“In the last quarter of the game everyone thought he was down and the quarterback broke away, that was a great play for the ThunderWolves,” said Anthony Sandstrom, the sports information director at CSU-Pueblo.
After dominating the entire game, the ThunderWolves were in a position to milk the clock and secure the victory.
“My favorite play of this game would have to be the kneeling of the ball at the end of the game,” said Lewis.
The ThunderWolves are now 5-4 and have a chance to finish 7-4 for the 2009 football season.
“It would be very impressive to finish 7-4 considering this is only the second year we have had football at CSU-Pueblo,” said Sandstrom.
