College can be expensive enough with tuition and cost of living. At the same time students also have to establish themselves as professionals to be prepared for the work force. With that comes expectations for business attire that can incur additional expenses that can be out of reach for some.
Every semester the Career Center at CSU Pueblo, now a part of Student Leadership Involvement Career and Engagement (SLICE), partners for a JC Penney’s Suit-Up in effort to relieve some of the financial pressure on students.
On March 15, 2026 students can go to JC Penney at the Pueblo Mall from 3-6 p.m. to receive coupons for up to 30% off of select careerwear, to include shoes and accessories, as well as $25 off of a $100 purchase. With a valid student ID they will receive the coupons on-site when they show up to shop.
The opportunity isn’t limited to the event though. The Career Center reports that after the event takes place, they also provide coupons to students who were not able to attend the event day-of.
Emmanuel Jeanmarie, a student who works at the Career Center, explained how influential the event has been for him. “Students learn how to dress professionally and how to communicate their sizes accurately and confidently,” Jeanmarie said.
“Before attending the event, I did not even know my suit size… The Suit-Up event provided me with a unique opportunity to purchase a high-quality suit at up to 45% off the original price, which resulted in significant savings.”

Students who attend have the opportunity to be measured and sized to find the attire best for them. Jeanmarie explained how that information can be taken and used for purchases in the future as students continue their professional journeys.
The event has been going on for over a decade, the Career Center reports knowledge of directly assisting more than 50 students over the years. From interviews to preparing for internships to attending formal dinners, the goal of the event is to make a meaningful difference for students.
“That awareness, combined with professional presentation skill, empowers students to walk into interviews feeling prepared and self-assured,” Jeanmarie said.
Full details of the event can be found on the CSU Pueblo website. Students also have access to the Career Closet at the Oschiato Student Center, where they have access to professional attire donated by members of the community.
