The first ever “Bring the Thunder MMA” took place at the Massari Arena on September 11 with a lot of action and entertainment.
In all, there were 12 fights which took placeto go with the estimated crowd of over 3,000 people, and a special appearance by Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Shane Carwin. Carwin once wrestled in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference according to a press release from GoThunderwolves.com.
The event was a fundraiser to benefit CSU-Pueblo athletics scholarships. The members of the CSU-Pueblo wrestling team, as well as head wrestling coach Dax Charles, and assistant wrestling coach Shane Brewer organized the event according to GoThunderwolves.com website.
The amateur fights had battles which ended as quickly as the match started, and bouts which took a good amount of time to end.
Four of the amateur fights featured Technical Knockout victories. One of the TKO’s came in the Nick Kriss and Chris Moreno fight, when Kriss was able to land several strikes and got the TKO at 2:08 in the first round GoThunderwolves.com website said.
Another TKO occurred in the Vallie Goudy and Erminia Velarden fight, after the referee called the match when Goudy was able to land a few unanswered strikes just before the end of the first round, according to GoThunderwolves.com.
The final TKO victory was in the Jeremy Mares and Levi Moore fight, when Mares was able to land a flurry that called for the referee to end the battle in the second round, the Go.Thunderwolves.com website reported.
Other than the three fights that ended via TKO, there were also three fights that were won by either a submission or tapout. One of those fights featured Andrew Watts and Drew Hirschfield. During the match, Watts was able to put Hirschfield in a triangle choke hold, forcing him to lose consciousness giving the victory to Watts.
Another battle that was won by submission was in the Nick Portillos and Lawrence Bowman fight. That battle was very intense that feature several strikes, body shots, and a head kick. In the end, Portillos came out the victor when he was able to use an armbar with 1:50 left in the first round.
The last bout that featured a victory by submission or tapout came when Tyler Eberhart was able to put Jeremy Krance in a chokehold to get the tapout victory at 1:41 in the first round, Go.Thunderwolves.com website said.
In the other amateur fight, Lorant Nelson won when he connected a right hook on Mark Getler in the second round for the knockout, Go.Thunderwolves.com website said.
Two of the professional fights also featured submission victories by both Willie Parks and Justin Guthrie, both coming in round one of their respective fights.
A deep cut was the reason the Nick Macias and Prentice Ingram was called after the first round, Go.Thunderwolves.com website said. The cut happened when Ingram received the cut after getting hit with an elbow from Macias. When the first round ended, it was determined that the cut was deep enough to force the match to be called, gving the TKO victory to Macias.
The two main events of the night featured both UFC alumni Dollar and Marshall competing in separate matches.
Dollar would go on to compete against Brett Roller, Go.Thunderwolves.com reported. During the bout, both fighters attempted to land submissions, and both were able to escape a few close calls. In the end Dollar was able to win by tapout because of his ability to land several strikes.
The other main event put Marshall against Adriano Camolese. Like the other main event, the UFC alumni Marshall was also able to get the win, after the judges award him the victory by unanimous decision, Go.Thunderwolves.com reported.
Although this was only the first time that “Bring the Thunder MMA” has taken place at CSU-Pueblo, there are plans to try to make it an annual event.
