Steel City Music Showcase is returning this weekend, April 10 and 11, with a brand new showcase of local Colorado musicians. The music festival is celebrating its third year of taking over downtown Pueblo, with a variety of stages that will be running music late into the night.
It additionally marks another year that CSU Pueblo’s “Concerts, Festivals, and Events” class within the Media & Entertainment department will be assisting at the festival, hosting the CSU Pueblo stage at La Bella Union. The stage is located off Union Ave.
“I’ve been to many concerts in my life so seeing more local artists, especially with Pueblo, doesn’t happen too often,” Gio Alfonso, a student of the class who will be acting as an artist liaison at the event, said. “I think it will be really fun.”
Students within the class fill in a variety of roles, including liaisons, sound direction, and more. The professor of the class, Brock Kilgore, is also a board member for Steel City Music Showcase, giving the students a unique perspective of what it takes to not only be a part of a musical festival, but to run one.
The showcase has made an emphasis on collaborating with the local community, featuring a variety of popular Pueblo staples like Shiver and Shake, Goldie’s Permanent Jewelry, and Cafe Murillo, and several others.
Tickets begin at $30 for a day pass or $50 for a weekend pass, but CSU Pueblo students are able to attend for free Friday night with a student ID, or for half price on Saturday.
“I’m very excited,” Ruby Sweeney-Spitzeck said, another student of the class helping with the festival. “I’ve never done anything like this.”
With enthusiasm buzzing for students and the community alike, the festival has become a highly anticipated part of spring festivities in Pueblo, with visitors from larger areas in Colorado coming to town to celebrate musicians they love or discover new ones.
A schedule of events can be found below, or through this direct link to the Steel City Music Showcase website where tickets can be bought ahead of time.
