The Buell Children’s Museum celebrated its 10th birthday on Thursday, June 10. The celebration, which began on June 5, will extend through August 14, and includes an earlier opening of 10 a.m. and closing at 4 p.m.

The museum, which is located at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center on 210 N. Santa Fe Ave., is offering activities throughout the summer based around the number 10, according to their press release.

The Buell Children’s Museum opened in June 2000 and is a 12,000-square-foot, two-level facility with an interactive gallery, theatre, café and gift shop. It has also been ranked the second best children’s museum by Child Magazine, according to the museum website.

On June 10, the museum celebrated with a “Happy 10th Birthday” party from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The activities included a 14-foot bubble tower, story time, bluegrass music from the local band, Fireweed, and cupcakes.

Saturday, July 10, the museum will host the “Fairy House Garden Tour” which features fairy and troll houses made by children, music, art and face painting. Entry forms for the event must be picked up at the museum front-desk and filled out and returned to the museum by July 3.

On Thursday, August 10, the museum will focus on engineering, construction and weight-bearing physics and those attending can also participate in the “Peace Bridge Project,” which will connect bridges made by the children attending. Entry kits are available at the museum front-desk until August 3.

The August 10 event will also feature music by Ed Hill, building contests, art projects and a wood-turning demonstration by the Pueblo Woodworkers.

Museum admission is $3 for children and military and $4 for adults. Arts Center members enjoy free admission.

July 10 – Sketch the garden with Jedediah Jackman.

July 17 – Artist Ed Sajbel demonstrates collage art.

July 24 – the Sangre de Cristo Dancerz perform on-stage and children are invited to join.

July 31 – Gary Holder, Curator of Education.

August 7 – Sing along with musician Chris Reed.

August 14 – The Incredible Mr. E. teaches simple magic tricks.
