The grand opening of the CSU-Pueblo Library & Academic Resources Center’s new location will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on the building’s east side Friday, April 22, at 10 a.m.
The re-opening of the building, which underwent a $24 million, two and a half year construction project, will be lead by CSU-Pueblo Interim President Julio Leon, according to a CSU-Pueblo press release.
State leaders, Gov. John Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia will be among the dignitaries to cut the ribbon.
The renovation, which was constructed by the general contractors H.W. Houston Construction, includes 22,600 additional square feet of space, a complete replacement of the mechanical and electrical systems, and significant improvements in technology.
Cosmetic features added to the library include 17 study rooms, a 40-student classroom and a 75-student lecture hall. There will also be plenty of new windows for maximum light capacity and the refurbished balconies, which will be enclosed in glass, will be open to students as study or hang-out areas, according to Rhonda Gonzales, dean of the library, in an earlier CSU-Pueblo story.
Almost half of the materials used on the library reconstruction project had some level of recycled content.
The library now has an innovative chilled beam mechanical system, efficient water and lighting fixtures, and daylight harvesting to dim lighting when spaces are lit by natural daylight. These features were added so that the new building received the goal of a Platinum designation on the U.S. Green Building Council rating system.
Three separate tours will be given to attendees at 10:45 a.m. to highlight these ne features. The tours technology, green/sustainability, and academic resources will be individually given to cater to specific areas of interest.
Anyone who attends will be eligible for a drawing to win a Kindle, an electronic book, or an iPad. They will also be able to sample Country Oven Bakery pastries, which will be sold in the new building’s cafe area, as well as beverages.
