The search for the new provost or vice president for academic affairs of Colorado State University- Pueblo is coming closer to the end.
Four final candidates have been selected for on-campus interviews at CSU-Pueblo, and one of the four candidates will then become the new provost, after being selected by the provost search committee.
The final four candidates come from different backgrounds, and all hold prominent positions at their current universities; each of the final candidates also have the skills needed to assume the role as provost at CSU-Pueblo.
Over the next couple of weeks, each of the four candidates will be on campus.
The provost search committee encourages those interested to attend the open forum each day. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the university, and what the new provost will bring to CSU-Pueblo.
Warren Sandmann, the first candidate, will be on campus March 12.
Sandmann is currently the associate provost and cice president for academic affairs at Minnesota State University, Mankato and he has a doctorate in communication studies from the University of Iowa.
The second candidate, Julio Blanco, is currently the dean of the School Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering, as well as the associate provost for grants, resource management and planning at California State University Bakersfield; Blanco holds a doctorate in physics at Pennsylvania State University.
Blanco will be visiting the CSU-Pueblo campus later that week, on March 14.
The third candidate for the new provost of CSU-Pueblo is Claudia Pinter-Lucke, who will be visiting the campus in the beginning of the following week, on March 19.
Lucke is the associate provost for academic affairs at California State Polytechnic University Pomona. She holds a doctorate in mathematics from Claremont Graduate University.
The fourth and final candidate is Carl Wright, the current dean of the College of Business at Grambling State University. Wright has a doctorate in business administration from Jackson State University.
Wright’s on campus visit is scheduled to be on March 21.
During their campus visits, students will have the opportunity to meet each candidate for an informal meet and greet.
The provost or vice president of academic affairs is responsible for assuring the quality of student education, by overseeing the curriculum and leading new proposals in education.
This position is responsible for all academic programs on campus and is the direct supervisor for all deans. The provost is also responsible for all academic degrees and non-degree programs.
By April, the search committee and CSU-Pueblo President, Leslie Di Mare, will have made their choice from the final four candidates to be the new provost of CSU-Pueblo.
