Dr. Paul Orscheln has been selected as the new Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management.
Orscheln will begin his new position starting Sept. 30, 2013 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management works with the president and provides assistance, counsel and support to the president as a member of the president’s cabinet and university leadership team; thus, the decisions that the Orscheln makes can directly affect every student at CSU-Pueblo.
Orscheln will also provide oversight of student services and enrollment management, which includes the development and completion of enrollment goals in addition to direction for the offices of admissions and financial aid, first year programs, records, the center for international programs and the English Language Institute.
In addition, the Orscheln’s position will require him to work side by side with and oversee the dean of student life and the offices that work directly with it. This would include residence life and housing, judicial affairs, recreation center, counseling, student health center and student activities.
A search committee, lead by Chris Fendrich, selected three final candidates, including Orscheln, after reviewing many other resumes and conducting Skype interviews. Finally, CSU-Pueblo President Lesley Di Mare chose Orscheln.
During the interview process, Orscheln displayed expertise in all of the areas of enrollment management gained through his career of almost 15 years at three different institutions.
He also displayed success in using student recruitment data and managing crucial enrollment service operations including admissions, registrar, and financial aid; all areas- which can directly affect many of the students here at CSU-Pueblo.
Jennifer Mullen, the chief of staff at CSU-Pueblo, said that Orscheln was the stronger candidate for his years of experience in the field, and the diversity of institutions Orscheln has worked at before.
“Not only will he bring his knowledge and experience to CSU-Pueblo, I think his enthusiastic personal style will invigorate our students, faculty and staff,” Mullen said.
He is currently an associate vice president for enrollment management at Northern Kentucky University. Before, Orscheln worked as a director of undergraduate admissions and orientations; he was then promoted to executive director of enrollment at Northern Arizona University.
Orscheln attended the University of Central Missouri where he received both a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a master’s degree in physical education, exercise and sport science.
“I look forward to his leadership and vision for making our student services and enrollment management efforts even more successful. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Orscheln and his family to CSU-Pueblo and the community of Pueblo,” Di Mare said.
