The ThunderWolves halted a five-game skid against Colorado Christian Thursday, Oct. 15, downing the Cougars three sets to none.
It was the Pack’s eighth straight win over Colorado Christian in as many meetings, dating back to 2002.
The ThunderWolves didn’t exact the kind of dominance they had hoped over Colorado Christian, winning 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19, but they were able to convert key points throughout the match.
“We didn’t play the best game, but we finished the game,” Pack head coach Chris Jonson said.
At the beginning of the first set, both teams were equally strong. After a few inaccuracies on both sides, the teams showed good moves and fought hard for their points. The T-Wolves were always one step in front of the Cougars, and got on a run to take a four point lead, making the score 16-12. The opposing team caught up, trailing by one point, but the ThunderWolves closed them out for the 25-22 win.
In the second set, both teams stayed very close. This time the Cougars were always one step in front of the T-Wolves, and they took the lead with a score of 8-5. The T-Wolves tried hard to get to a tie of 8-8. After playing hard and showing a high-level of skill, the T-Wolves took the lead, and brought the score up to 15-12. In the end the T-Wolves won the second set 25-19.
In the third set, both teams fought hard for the points, but the Cougars took the lead with a score of 7-2. The T-Wolves were not focused, and hit a lot of balls out of the court. The Cougars totally dominated the T-Wolves, and the ThunderWolves had some difficulties finding their way back into the game. They finally caught up, and brought the score to a tie of 16-16. Then the T-Wolves took the lead, and won the third set 25-19.
The ThunderWolves’ front line was tough, led by Megan Koop, freshman, Littleton, Colo.; Alea Wildman, sophomore, Denver; and Bernadette Pitre, sophomore, Clifton, Colo.
Koop and Wildman each recorded eight kills while Pitre had seven. The trio also had eight blocks.
Friday, the ThunderWolves hosted Regis, a team the Pack hasn’t beaten since 2007.
“Tomorrow I expect a battle, we play against one of the best teams in the conference,” Jonson said.
