Colorado State University-Pueblo women’s track and field coach, Chad Perry, has announced the hire of former Western Carolina University graduate assistant, Jennifer Spivey, as CSU-Pueblo’s assistant women’s track and field and cross country coach.

At Western Carolina University, Spivey specialized in sprints, hurdles and relays for the men’s and women’s squads.  Throughout her four seasons with the Catamounts, Western Carolina successfully dominated the men’s and women’s 4 x 100-meter relay and 4 x 400-meter relay, winning a pair of Southern Conference indoor titles and a pair of outdoor championship titles (2007-2009). Spivey contributed to the advancement of five sprint relays, twelve provisional NCAA east regional qualifiers and five NCAA national qualifiers.

In addition to coaching, Spivey served as team co-coordinator for team community service and fundraising events. Her off-the track responsibilities include recruiting and supporting student support services month-to-month by monitoring team members progress in the classroom.

Spivey’s coaching career began in 2005 with the Frederick Striders Track and Field Club in Frederick, Maryland. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, she provided training pointers and adolescent guidance. She ran and jumped for the Frederick Striders Track and Field Club and competed nationally for the state of Maryland including a medal performer at the Junior Nationals.

“I’m excited about what she will bring to our program,” Perry said.  “She brings a lot of maturity and knowledge to our program, and she’ll be an effective coach for our girls.”

Spivey competed for Western Carolina University, earning All-Southern Conference honors from 2001-2005. In 2009, Spivey received her Master’s Degree in education with a concentration in community college and teaching from Western Carolina University. Spivey is a USA Track & Field Level I track and field certified coach.
