Reaching out for mental health support can be scary, and therapy may not be for everyone. NAMI On Campus is a student organization that aims to make seeking support easier by raising awareness and encouraging open dialogue.
“Mental health is health. It’s OK to not be OK, and NAMI On Campus is here, as fellow students, to provide that peer support for you. We are deeply passionate about your happiness, and we want to support you in relieving any mental health barriers that prevent you from becoming the best version of yourself,” said Garrett Lerch, NAMI On Campus president.
Due to this being the first year that this organization is at Colorado State University Pueblo, there remain a few improvements to be made, such as the organization finding its own office space. Doing this will allow for a more consistent space so that students will always know where to find it.
“As with all new programs and organizations, visibility takes time, and we are slowly getting out to students more and more each day,” Lerch said.
Some events that the organization has held have included the Create & Craft event and a Wolf Wellness Workshop on Nov. 20.
“Our Wolf Wellness Workshops are the heart of our services for students. They are a dedicated time and space for students to come and talk about their mental health struggles while receiving certified peer support from our student leaders. All facilitators of our Wolf Wellness Workshops are mental wellness trained in order to be able to provide students with meaningful and quality workshops,” Lerch said.
