The magical world of fairies comes to life during the Fairy House and Garden Tour, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 10 in front of the Buell Children’s Museum in downtown Pueblo.
The event is being held as part of the museum’s 10th birthday, said Donna Stincomb, the museum’s curator, and is a way for children to express their creativity and enjoy the outdoors.
“Kids don’t play outside much these days,” Stincomb said, “and this event provides them with an opportunity to do that and be creative at the same time.”
Work stations and an imitation fairyland boasting fairy trees on the ceiling will be set up on the second floor, said Gary Holder, the museum’s curator of education. Here, children get to create puppets and mechanical animals, and meet with a fairy house artist.
Children can enter their favorite adult to participate in building a fairy village on the front lawn of the museum and enter the Fair Garden Tour show. Fairy house builders are encouraged to bring natural building materials such as bark, berries, clay, feathers, grass, leaves, moss, pinecones, shells, sticks and stones.
“These materials provide participants with everything they need to build a fairy house,” Holder said, “and people can view the fairy houses as part of the garden tour.”
Stincomb said she believes the event will draw a large turnout.
“This is our first year doing this,” Stincomb said, “and we hope it becomes an event we can continue to conduct for years to come.”
Children will be provided a sack to take home all they created, Holder said, and all participants receive a gold Pueblo coin.
“There is always magic, treasure and wonderment when it comes to gnomes and tiny creatures,” Holder said, “and this event offer something for kids of all ages.”
