The Pack set numerous school records in 66-0 win on final home game.
CSU-Pueblo went out on their final home game blowout big, in a 66-0 thrashing of New Mexico Highlands University Saturday night.
In front of a crowd of more than 5,000 and honorees from the 2010 Hall of Fame induction class, the Pack set the school record for most points in a game and the largest margin of victory against an opponent ever.
Individually, the all-time scoring record was set by junior kicker Kyle Major, who broke the 2010 Hall of Fame inductee and two-time All-American Bill Gower’s record of 180 total points. Major’s 12 points put him at 183.
The Pack’s offense saddled up and rode the NMHU Cowboys from 1-8, 1-6 for 499 all-purpose yards with four scores combined between running backs Jesse Lewis and Jamaal Johnson. Lewis ran for 143 yards while Johnson racked up 102.
The defensive effort was nothing less than spectacular as well, only allowing 158 yards on offense and zero points.
“That’s just everybody doing their jobs,” said John Wristen, the Pack’s head coach.
The pack started doing their jobs right at the start of the game. On the second play from scrimmage, Jason Campbell recovered a NMHU fumbled that resulted in a Major field goal.
From there on, the Pack’s running game started to gear up, as Lewis sprinted, virtually dancing into the end zone as he bounced off would-be NMHU defenders.
The first scores were all the offense needed in this game, but being that it was the last home game, the Pack’s seniors decided to join in on the fun as well.
Josh Salazar, a senior, bulldozed the NMHU defense in the red zone on a 1-yard score for the Pack to put them up, 17-0
Senior quarterback Sebastian Trujillo, a transfer from the University of San Diego, took advantage of his time behind center, tallying up 107 passing yards and one touchdown. He orchestrated a 75-yard drive for a touchdown before half time to put the Pack up 31-0, finishing off the drive with a 31-yard throw to receiver Josh Sandoval for the score.
Marquise Enoch, the packs biggest threat on special teams all season, left his mark at home, adding 89 total return yards to his credit and nearly missing a returned punt that he relentlessly would not go down on.
The pack continued to candy coat their lead this Halloween night when Lewis scored another touchdown, going virtually untouched and floated into the end zone like a ghost to extend the Pack lead to 38-0 in the third quarter.
With the reserves playing the majority of the night, the Pack continued to spoil the Cowboys night, with the only thing saving them tonight was the clock.
After leaving the 2010 home schedule on a sweet note, the Pack extend their record to 7-2, 5-2 with an opportunity to tie the school record for wins in a season with 9. They will finish up with two road games against Western State and Western New Mexico.
