Peter K. Dorhout, who has served as vice provost for graduate affairs at CSU-Fort Collins since 2004, has been named interim provost for CSU-Pueblo.
Julio Leon, interim president of CSU-Pueblo, made the announcement at about 11 a.m. today. Dorhut has assumed the mantle of leadership from Russ Meyer who retired February 18 after 11 years.
Dorhout has served as assistant vice president for research. In this position, he served as the liaison between the office of the provost and the office of the vice president for research. He also coordinated the efforts of graduate education, research, and scholarship on and off campus.
As the graduate school leader, Dorhut negotiated new graduate degree programs with and among campus and interuniversity units. He also monitored graduate teaching and research assistant budget needs, coordinated international research initiatives, and coordinated recruiting, retention and graduation efforts focused on graduate education.
Dorhut also has served as the interim executive director for the Office of International Programs, and as associate dean for research and graduate education for the College of Natural Sciences. He also serves on the faculty of the department of chemistry as professor of inorganic chemistry. He is a recognized expert in solid state and materials chemistry and environmental chemistry.
Dorhut is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Chemical Society and the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, a philanthropic foundation supporting advances in science in chemistry, physics, and astronomy.
He has also served on the board of directors of the Colorado NanoTechnology Association, and on the National Graduate Curriculum Committee for the Homeland Security/Defense Education Consortium and the ROTC Advisory Board for CSU
Dorhut holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign, and a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
