CSU-Pueblo ranked among the “Best Buys in Online College Degrees” for its online distance degrees in social science and sociology by the website GetEducated.com, according a CSU-Pueblo press release.
For five of the last six years, CSU-Pueblo has held the number one spot on the list.
The value rankings are based on a survey of higher education costs at 48 regionally accredited universities that offer distance degrees at the bachelor’s level of education.
The distance degree is part of the Colorado State University Pueblo’s Continuing Education Independent Study and External Degree Completion program, according to the CSU-Pueblo website.
CSU-Pueblo students who earn distance degrees pay $18,000 dollars or less to attain the distance degree, according to the GetEducated website.
State of residency is not reflected in the cost of tuition for online schooling, therefore each distance degree student earns the degree at the same cost. This means out-of-state students at CSU-Pueblo will enjoy the same lower tuition cost as Colorado residents.
The top-ranked degrees are offered as a traditional correspondence course. The format, which involves online work mixed with correspondence from a professor, allows for the low cost tuition.
The online correspondence classes are also aimed to give students more flexibility than an online version of the same degree.
“Online learning is about making higher education accessible, especially for working adults in need of affordable continuing career education,” said Vicky Phillips, founder of GetEducated.com, according to the news release.
“College costs are crippling working Americans. Every school on the GetEducated Best Online College rankings list is a model for making higher education more affordable, and therefore more accessible, for non-traditional adult students across the USA.”
CSU-Pueblo’s distance degree program also earned the title of “Best Online College” in the website’s rankings this year.
