The CSU-Pueblo football team upheld their 2011 season with a 47-0 win over conference foe Ft. Lewis, Sept. 24. This was the ThunderWolves’ homecoming game. 
The ThunderWolves remain undefeated so far this season with a 4-0 record and have yet to surrender a point at home in two games.
The Ft. Lewis Skyhawks went into Saturday’s game with a 1-2 record, looking to beat the undefeated ThunderWolves. Their hopes were dashed when the Pack got off to an early first-quarter lead. After Kyle Major scored a field goal, the Pack’s defense forced a second straight 3-and out. Senior running back Jesse Lewis upped the score 10-0 with a 10-yard touchdown run, caping off a 5 play 48-yard drive.
The Pack continued with the next big play after junior Anthony Marshall blocked a Ft. Lewis punt and ran it in for the ThunderWolves’ second touchdown. Major kicked another field goal to make the score 20-0, late in the second quarter.
Mistakes pledged the Skyhawks all night. Quarterback Tim Jenkins threw two interceptions and one of them paid the unlimited price. With 3:25 left in the first half, Pack cornerback, Stephan Dickens picked off Jenkins and ran 57-yards for another ThunderWolf touchdown
However, the Pack offense struggled a bit and Ft. Lewis was able to come up with a much needed turnover. Ft. Lewis’ Arturo Mata sacked ThunderWolf quarterback Ross Dausin and forced a fumble. The Skyhawks took over at the Pack’s 19-yard line, but couldn’t capitalize when it was forced to kick a field goal but the attempt was blocked by junior Jason Campbell.
The ThunderWolves went into halftime with a 27-0 lead.
The second half turned out to be a record breaking one. Josh Sandoval, sophomore wide receiver, broke the all-time return yards record for the ThunderWolves after he took a 77-yard punt for a Pack touchdown in the third quarter. The touchdown redeemed the second quarter fumble by Sandoval.
The ThunderWolves all-time leader in return yards, Sandoval, wasn’t aware that he had broken a record until he was informed after the game.
Other records could have been broken Saturday night as well. Lewis was just 12 yards away from breaking the CSU-Pueblo all-purpose yards record but, was pulled from the game early in the third quarter.
Coach Jon Wristen currently has the ThunderWolves clinging to the nation’s longest winning streak. The streak was expanded to eight games Saturday night.
The ThunderWolves return to action next weekend as they travel to Chadron State, Oct. 1. The Pack beat the Eagles last season. Then the ThunderWolves play Colorado School of Mines on their first national televised game, Oct. 6.
