Women’s soccer struggles over weekend

CSU-Pueblo vs. Metro State University, Oct. 14

CSU-Pueblo women’s soccer took a significant blow to their post-season hopes Oct. 14, losing a home game against Metro State University.

The Pack began the weekend with their annual “Kicking Cancer” game against perennial conference power Metro State.

The game was back and forth in the first half, until Metro State forward Karisa Price placed the ball through and slotted it past the oncoming keeper. The ThunderWolves kept fighting to create chances but was unable to convert. The teams went into halftime with the score still 1-0.

CSU-Pueblo came out of the break on fire and leveled the score just one minute into the half, off a deep shot from sophomore Alicia Irwin that bent over the goalkeeper after she misread the shot.

The teams continued to exchange chances but neither could convert and resulted in the teams going to overtime. Metro State wasted little time in ending the game when a bending shot by Metro State forward Michael’Ann Karas found the back of the net, giving Metro State the win 2-1.

The loss dropped CSU-Pueblo’s record to 2-6 in conference play.

CSU-Pueblo vs. Regis University

CSU-Pueblo women’s soccer lost 2-0 to Regis University Oct. 16, losing the season series between the two schools 2-0.

Regis came out playing well and took the lead in just seven minutes in, when forward Jordan Miller was on the receiving end of a ball that left her one on one with the keeper, who she calmly beat. This put the Rangers up 1-0.

Miller’s second goal came during the second half on a corner kick from Marissa Davis. Miller was able to sneak through the defense and finish off the cross.

The Pack played well against one of the conference’s elite, matching them shot for shot. Unlike Regis, the ThunderWolves were not able to capitalize on their chances.

The team heads for the final two weekends of the season, needing to virtually win-out and have help from other teams to make the post-season.
