PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderwolves.com — Oct. 8, 2012) The Colorado State University-Pueblo women’s cross country and track and field teams will volunteer their time for the 4th Annual Harvest Walk and 5K Fun Run, hosted by Pueblo Diversified Industries (PDI) on Saturday, Oct. 13.
PDI hosts the Harvest Walk and Fun Run every year to raise funds for their organization, which allows for individuals with physical and mental limitations to break past challenges, find opportunities and earn an income. Their mission is to provide life-enhancing opportunities, services and support for people with individual needs, as well as provide quality products and services for its business partners.
“This year’s walk will benefit the ‘Classrooms for Life and Work Skills,'” PDI President and CEO Karen Lillie said. “This will help expand the life and work skills training and services we provide for all consumers, allowing them to have more opportunities to grow within in the community workforce and obtain more independence.”
The CSU-Pueblo women’s track and field and cross country teams will be helping with the event by assisting with setup, take-down and walking with those involved.
“It’s fun and we enjoy visiting with all the participants,” head coach Chad Perry said. “It’s a great way to meet new people, walk and talk, promote exercise and learn to respect other people’s similarities and differences.”
This will be the fourth year that the Thunderwolves will walk side-by-side with PDI consumers during the event. Perry believes that it is important that the team stay active within the community and maintain a relationship with PDI through the Harvest Walk.
He also noted that the program considers the event one of its key community service and fundraising events each year. The women’s cross country and track teams were also involved in a Habitat for Humanity community service event and two fundraisers for the CSU-Pueblo Athletic Department earlier this year.
The Harvest Walk will begin with registration at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Neta & Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl, located on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus. Registration for the 5K Fun Run will begin at 8:30 a.m.
All are welcome to attend the event, and the cost of registration is a suggested donation by participants. All proceeds will go toward PDI.
