The Steel City Music Showcase is coming to Pueblo for the second year in a row, beginning on April 11. Pueblo native Morgan J. Cox will be performing this year with his unique sound and emotional storytelling.
He doesn’t stick to just one genre; his music blends rock, hip hop, pop, blues, and jazz into something his own.
With two albums out – “Musica Vessel” and the recently released “PUSH ME ICONIC” – Cox dives deep into real-life experiences. The song “Reminiscing” honors his younger brother who passed away, and “Beat the Odds” celebrates his therapist’s fight and win over ovarian cancer.
He has been present in the music scene in Southern Colorado for some time, playing shows throughout the region and grabbing attention with his powerful performances. He’s been featured on FOX21’s “Friday Feelz” and continues to build momentum with music videos such as “EDDIE” and “BLACK MAMBA” on YouTube, both packed with meaning and creative visuals.
When asked how he prepares for a show such as Steel City Music Showcase, Cox said that “this year I decided to have a backing band, so we’ve been working hard for a couple months. Practicing every week to get my sound just right — me and the guys know what we want to sound like, so we strive for perfection.”
As for what it’s like coming up as an artist from Pueblo, he said “it’s not hard being an artist coming out of Pueblo. The art community is so supportive of me and my music, and for that, I’m deeply devoted to the Pueblo art scene.”
Cox is expected to bring energy, heart, and maybe even a few surprises at the Steel City Music Showcase. Pueblo’s music scene is growing, and artists such as Cox are leading the way.
According to the showcase’s Instagram, he is now scheduled to perform at 6:20 p.m. April 11 at the CSU Pueblo stage, located at La Bella Union Plaza. The showcase also takes place on April 12. There will be five stages and more than 40 artists this year.
