Colorado State University-Pueblo will host Comedy Central comedian Vargus Mason Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 7-9 p.m., in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom.
Mason uses highly physical movements and an array of animated voices to entertain audiences, which earned him the title, “the Human Cartoon.” Mason is gaining popularity across the world, according to his website, vargusmason.com.
During his first comedic performance, the 2002 San Francisco Comedy Competition, Mason placed second out of 340 other competitors. He was also ranked among the top 10 comedians on MySpace in 2006, which featured other comedians such as Dane Cook, Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon.
Mason’s foremost important moment came when he was selected among the top 40 stand-up comedians to compete on the fourth season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” according to the Comedy Store’s website. He was eliminated from the show following the semi-finals.
Mason continues to add to his television credits with appearances on Russell Simmon’s “Def Comedy Jam,” Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham,” “Comics Unleashed and Entertainers with Byron Allen,” BET’s “Comic-View” and VH1’s “Super Secret Movie Rules”. His most recent appearance was as Comedy Central’s online commentator for the “Celebrity Roast of Flavor Flav.”
A strong supporter of the U.S. military, Mason has traveled around the world performing for the troops. His talents have taken him to 16 different countries, according to vargusmason.com.
The comedy event is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and admission is free. For more information, contact Nicky Damania at 719-549-2975.
