    Spotlight on Reading/Writing: Juan Morales

    The TODAY’s Spotlight on Reading/Writing features CSU-Pueblo faculty, staff and students sharing their reading and writing experiences. The column is co-sponsored by the English and Foreign Languages Department and the English Club.     What has been your greatest success in writing? (Personal writing, collaborative writing, completing a project or book, etc.): Publishing poems in journals. I accomplished this through a lot of rejection and revision.

    What was your most challenging writing experience and how did you tackle it? Writing a collection of poems successfully. Revision, revision, and a little more revision.

    What’s your favorite book of all time? Author? “Pleasure Dome” by Yusef Komunyakaa and “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

    What are you currently reading? Author? “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Diaz and “Leaving Saturn” by Major Jackson

    What’s your favorite guilty reading pleasure, an easy, “beach” read? Stephen King’s “The Shining”

    Do you have a favorite word or quotation and who is the author? If you can see blues/in the ocean, light and dark/can feel worms ease through/a subterranean path/beneath each footstep,/Baby, you got rhythm – Yusef Komunyakaa
