Whether or not you like big butts, and whether you are capable of lying about it or not, the “Booty Tour” is coming to Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Kirko Bangz, Bubba Sparxxx and Sir Mix-a-Lot will be bringing their booties-and-butts-themed show to CSU-Pueblo for the spring concert on April 18, 2014.
Bubba Sparxxx is a Southern hip-hop artist known for his hit song “Ms. New Booty,” featuring the Ying Yang Twins; Kirko Bangz’s most famous single is “Drank In My Cup,” and Sir Mix a Lot is a hip hop and rap artist most known for his song “Baby got Back,” according to his official website.
CSU-Pueblo has hosted concerts for its students dating back to the early 1980s. In the last seven years there have been five concerts featuring well known artists such as Gym Class Heroes, 3OH!3, Ludacris, The Used and Kanye West.
“The concert will provide a social atmosphere for students to enjoy music together and share in an awesome college experience,” Witkowsky said in a previous article in the CSU-Pueblo Today.
While some students are excited for the concert, others seem to think disgust is more in order.
In a December article, some students responded with annoyance at the school’s choice for the spring concert. One student commented to the announcement of Sir Mix-a-Lot by saying that it made CSU-Pueblo look pathetic hiring these groups whose main songs are about butts.
On first hearing the announcement about Sir Mix-a-Lot being chosen, senior sociology major Trevor Kennymore questioned where the CSU-Pueblo administration digs up the people they choose to bring to campus.
“The frustrations I expressed were on the last-minute and lowest-bidder decisions on musicians to invite,” Kennymore said in regards to his initial reaction to the announcement of the “Booty Tour.”
But not all students think the concert is a bad idea.
“Sir Mix A Lot may be seen as a goofy or out-of-touch selection to some, but I think it’s great. The spring concert is supposed to be a fun environment that anyone can enjoy, and I think Sir Mix A Lot is perfect for that,” said junior mass communications major Dustin Yourishin.
Like it or not, the “Booty Tour” is on its way.
Both Pueblo’s REV 89 and Magic FM will be giving away concert tickets, according to Witkowsky.
Tickets went on sale Monday, Feb. 3. The evening’s line up will include several student performers as well as the headliners beginning at 7 p.m. in CSU-Pueblo’s Massari Arena.
Student musicians will kick off the event at 7 p.m. with Bubba Sparxxx taking the stage immediately after at 8 p.m. The event is open to students and the Pueblo community.

The summer fee is false. The only thing you pay for in the summer is for any classes and/or any housing during that time period. Student activities does their planning and final touch ups during that time. There isn’t enough students around, so there is no point in charging anything. All your fees you pay during the regular semesters are only for use in those semesters.
I have already graduated and have been here long enough to know of what makes up our fees thank you. And make suggestions to student activities on what you WANT to see here.

Allie D., thank you for the advice on what to do with my own cash. But please understand that your suggestion was a horrid idea and I’ve elected to ignore it.
Please take a look at the following student tuition and fee chart,

and tell me that I’m not already investing enough into the things that 90% of the students are indifferent about. I’ve been registered full time every semester now for four years (with the exception of right now because I’m graduating) and have paid the full fee required for each term. Trust me, I would rather not fund the University’s consistently poor decisions at all and save that money for events within my own interests off campus.
Also, do you or anyone else find it strange that we pay for student activities during the Summer semesters yet there are virtually no events to speak of?

I think bringing the concert back to csu-p is great progress to goin back to the way it used to be, as opposed to traveling to the state fair and leaving out the students who don’t have the means of travel.
To the previous poster: why don’t you fork over some of your money over that you earn on the side and pay for something more ‘classy’ as you so put it. Some artists require more money than we can afford to pay. Or do you just wants concert and no activities for students the entire year, because THAT would be the only way we could afford it. Plus, it’s been going on for three or so years that students wanted to bring back a concert to csu-p like how it used to be.

I honestly wonder how many students actually wanted their student fees to go toward things like this. My question is why can’t we promote something with more class than outdated music about butts and booties? Why not put the revenue into something like a skatepark on campus, expanding Outdoor Pursuits or having more laser tag?
Administrators as well as students should be a little more conscious of how the public views our community if we expect to have a school with honorable reputation. We’re not going to attract any new students to fill the enrollment gap if everyone believes Pueblo is a ghetto/time-preserve with no positive influences nor experiences to offer. Unless of course the admins decide to start boasting about the number of liquor stores and pot shops we have around here.
