Los tres de la Habana, a famous musical group from Cuba, is performing at Colorado State University-Pueblo for Hispanic Heritage Month.

The performance will be held on Sept. 16 at the Occhiato University Center Ballroom at 7 p.m. and is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.

“In 2008 Los tres de la Habana left their country and actually walked on foot to the Mexican border so they could pursue their dream and have their talent more widely known,” said Alegria Ribadeneira, an assistant professor in the Spanish department at CSU-Pueblo.

“There are three main singers and the rest play instruments making up the entire band,” said Nicky Damania, director of student affairs. Los tres de la Habana consists of German Pinelli, Ana Maria Paez, and Ari Pinelli, which are the singers and three others that play instruments.

The music this group plays is a mixture of Salsa, Trova, Son and Cuban Reggaeton, which is also known as Cubaton.

“Most of their music is in Spanish, but the mix of their traditional rhythms with newer concepts makes them have a very unique sound,” said Ribadeneira.

The group wanted to expose their music to a wider audience. “They are especially well known in Florida now and their reputation keeps expanding,” Ribadeneria said.

The group signed a recording deal with RAFCA Records only months after they arrived in the U.S.

“CSU-Pueblo is part of Los tres de la Habana’s national tour,” said Damania. “Their tour date just happens to fall in Hispanic Heritage Month.”

“I listen to Los tres de la Habana often, so when we heard that they wanted to come to CSU-Pueblo and perform a free show we jumped on it,” Ribadeneira said. “We are so lucky to have them.”

The admission is free for everyone, CSU-Pueblo students and to the public.

“We try to make sure we have events we can offer to our community and it is a great source to get CSU-Pueblo alumni to come back as well as many other people,” Damania said.
