Hasan School of Business offers MBA

The Hasan School of Business has expanded the opportunity for Colorado State University-Pueblo students to get a Master of Business Administration degree.

For only two nights a week, students who live in or commute to Colorado Springs can take part in the internationally accredited MBA program and earn their degree in only two years.

Lia Sissom, director of the MBA program and staff member for the Hasan School of Business, provided insight into the program’s location and goals.

“It’s (Colorado Springs) a growth market for us. We have about 125 students in the program currently (at CSU-Pueblo), and with our charge to continue to grow, we need to look at some other opportunities,” Sissom said.

According to Sissom, the location may be en route to the work or home of many students here at CSU-Pueblo.

“We have a lot of our students that commute down from Springs and we have a lot of folks that live here in Pueblo that actually work up in Colorado Springs, so it just makes sense,” Sissom said.

Partnering up with the University’s Continuing Education Division sends students to the UMB Bank building at the Citadel Bank Center. Students participate in class two nights a week from 5:30 to 8:45 p.m.

The program is aimed at part-time students who are also working professionals. Students enrolled in the MBA program may take one course at a time, and the 36 hours of coursework can be completed in as little as two years.

The MBA program’s brochure says the MBA program aspires to prepare students for high-level management careers in business and other organizations.

This preparation is made possible through an understanding and application of management theory and the development of behavioral skills involved in making and implementing crucial business decisions, the brochure says.

The Hasan School of Business has been looking for an opportunity to introduce the MBA program in Colorado Springs for approximately five years, Sissom said.

The CSU-Pueblo MBA program has had nearly 20 years of success. After five years of preparation and some serious setbacks, Sissom said she expects the program in Springs to flourish.

“We (already) have double-digits enrolled right now in fall semester,” Sissom said. “It’s a program that’s open to everyone and is in a very central location that is easy to access.”
