Enter college as a civilian, graduate as a Navy Officer

Many people of interest, from actors to astronauts and politicians to presidents, have a shared experience that is now available at Colorado State University-pueblo.

    U.S. Navy officer.

According to U.S. Navy Chief Boatswain’s Mate (Surface Warfare) Robert Helmick, officer programs, Navy Operational Support Center, Fort Carson, the U.S. Navy Recruiting Office has positions available in its nationwide Baccalaureate Degree Program for students interested in becoming a naval flight officer, flight pilot or surface warfare officer.

Tanya Baird, CSU-Pueblo’s internship coordinator, said the program offers up to $135,000 for students to complete their college degree.  She said eligibility requirements include enrollment or acceptance into a four-year college-university, completion of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours and a 2.7 or better grade point average.

Baird said students are not required to participate in military training or uniform inspections while attending class.  Those enrolled in the program must meet the Navy’s physical requirements and must receive their baccalaureate degree before turning 34-years-old, and within 36 months.

She said upon receiving their degree, participants will be commissioned as an ensign and must serve four years  on active duty in the Navy, though age limits may apply to some programs.

“These are highly sought after, competitive slots and the Navy would love to have CSU-Pueblo students apply,” Baird said.
