Seniors showcase art in Fine Arts Gallery

If the visuals on the canvases do not grab your attention, the ‘Claws’ by Brad Irving hanging from the ceiling will definitely do it. From ceramics to paintings, abstract to complex art, the Senior Art Show had it all.

During finals week, the artists participating in the art show will have designated time slots to speak about their art pieces they have submitted.

artshow3.JPGThe Senior Art Show is located in the Fine Arts Gallery in the Art at Colorado State University-Pueblo.  It is viewed by the public from April 13 to May 1.

The art submitted by students have many themes. Ranging from the blue-collared ceramics by Jason Cox to the White House inspired “Communist Party” with Dick Cheney by Brandon Johnson.

The majority of the pieces are of people. Some are self-paintings while others are of family members. A few art pieces are of celebrities including one in honor of Bob Marley called “One Love” by Danielle Pritchett and another art piece of Billy Idol called “(Idol)” by Johnson.

Like the lyrics to a song by Bob Marley or Billy Idol, the Senior Art Show is quite an outlet to display students’ views and expressions. One is a piece with words all in lower case entitled “Yellow Bird” by Karen LaRoche.

Different types of photographs of nature show the viewer the escapisms of the harsh reality. Thomas Johnson’s pictures remind viewers there is still such thing as peace on earth.

“The pieces of art are from their final collection from each of the graduating seniors,” said Kyle Gates, a work study who was put in charge of the show.
