The employees for the CSU-Pueblo Foundation plan to hold a third annual Friends & Scholars scholarship luncheon to honor students who earned private scholarships from donors.
Emily King, private scholarship administrator for the foundation office, said the luncheon occurs on Thursday, Sept. 30. King said the seating begins at 11:45 a.m., in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom and that the program will run from noon until 2 p.m.
Potestio said there is a theme for the luncheon this year, which is “Climbing Higher.” She said the theme is meant to motivate the students who want to learn more for their education and to succeed in their lives.
King said there are a limited number of seats reserved for the event as more than 400 guests, which includes the students who are recipients, are expected to attend. Potestio said that about 30 to 50 private donors will attend the luncheon.
King said the donors will present the scholarships to the students. Among the various scholarships that will be presented are the Caroline Cramer-Voss Scholarship, the Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation Freshman Scholarship, the Carpet Direct/Crouch Family Scholarship and the Kane Family Foundation Scholarship, King said.
The students had to fulfill requirements to receive the scholarships to include eligibility and GPA requirements according to the List of Scholarships 2009 document from the CSU-Pueblo Foundation website.
For example, the scholarships document showed that the Kane Family Foundation Scholarship requires that the recipient be a Pueblo County high school graduate, has a 3.5 high school GPA and pays for in-state tuition and books.
The Caroline Cramer-Voss Scholarship requires students that the recipient be a full-time student, majoring in music and maintains a 2.0 cumulative GPA according to the scholarship document.
According to the scholarship document the Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation Freshman Scholarship requires that recipients be an entering freshman who is in financial need and has a 3.0 GPA.
The Carpet Direct-Crouch Family Scholarship requires the recipient is majoring in a field of science, engineering, accounting or a pre-professional program such as dentistry or physical therapy and also maintain a 3.25 GPA according to the 2009 scholarship document.
Above all, King said one purpose of the luncheon is to invite the private scholarship donors to talk and to meet the students. King said the students should talk to the donors because they are funding their education.
“If you’re a scholarship donor from their perspective, it’s nice to be able to meet the students who are actually receiving that scholarship in their family’s name or company’s name,” King said.
In turn, she said the luncheon may inspire the scholarship recipients to give back to the university when they have graduated. King said that when the scholars have graduated they may join the alumni association or they can create scholarships to award potential students.
