Free 15-minute massages are being given to CSU-Pueblo students from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m., each Thursday in the Student Recreation Center’s multi-purpose room.
Seven students from the massage therapy program at Pueblo Community College are conducting the massages, which is also available to members of the Student Recreation Center.
This will be the third Thursday the free massages have been given by the massage technician students.
“The free massages will continue to be every Thursday until the week before finals,” said Lisa Martin, the fitness coordinator who also lectures for the Exercise Science department.
Usually many people sign up previously and there are also many walk-ins. To sign up for the week in advance go to the front desk of the Recreation Center.
It has filled up quickly the past two times the free massages were held, said Martin.
“I really like the environment and experience it gives us working with different body structures,” said Coree Dones, a 20-year-old senior in the Massage Therapy program at Pueblo Community College. “I have probably massaged eight to 10 people so far.”
There are six chair massage units, so the other massage student helps with sign in and forming the line.
“When we have progressed a little further into our program, table massage will be introduced,” Dones said.
If the massage technician students aren’t too busy students and members can get back in line if they would like another massage, said Dones.
“This is a great hands-on experience and will prepare us for our future careers,” Dones said.
