CSU-Pueblo’s University Archives and the Office of Student Activities are sponsoring an essay contest in which the winning essays will be placed in a time capsule to be opened in the year 2111.
The essay contest called “What will the world be like in 2111?” challenges CSU-Pueblo students to predict what the world will be like 100 years from now.
The time capsule is being prepared by the Library Services as part of the library’s grand opening celebration, which is planned for next semester.
The capsule will be placed in the university archives for the next 100 years, according to the CSU-Pueblo Archives blog.
All CSU-Pueblo students are invited to enter an essay. Entry forms can be picked up and returned to the Office of Student Activities, in the Occhiato University Center, Room 003. The deadline for all entries is April 15.
The essay format is a narrative, one page essay. The essay should be written in 12 point Times New Roman font and double-spaced and printed on standard, white paper.
There should be no cover page or back matter attached to the essay. The entry form should be attached to the essay but the entrant’s name should not be included in the essay. No e-mail entries will be considered and the judge’s decisions are final.
Along with the inclusion in the time capsule, the author of the first place essay will receive a $50 prize and the authors of the two honorable mentions will receive $25 each.
Other 21st century items, which have not been determined, will be included to give future CSU-Pueblo students a glimpse into the past.
