CSU-Pueblo garners awards at local event

CSU-Pueblo won several awards at last month’s Sheep Dip ceremony.

Cora Zaletel, the director of external affairs for CSU-Pueblo, won four awards from the Southern Colorado Press Club, a professional organization of people in the media and public relation professions in Southern Colorado who meet monthly to talk about different activities in the fields and who host the Sheep Dip ceremony each year.

The awards were won for the Best Communication Program, which was for an annual fundraising gala, the Best Special Publication, which was a holiday card shaped as a globe, and two articles.

She also won a Wooly Award in 2006 for the Newsbook, which is an administration publication that is sent to prospective students of the university.

Zaletel says that winning the awards sheds light on the department, especially this year, because of the amount of awards that were won, and the fact that her peers had the ability to vote to choose the winner.

Zaletel says that in the future, she wants to start a Web site with photos and video and be able to win an award for that.

The Athletic Department also won an award at the Sheep Dip ceremony.

Anthony Sandstrom, the sports information specialist, won an award for the Best Sports Feature from the Colorado Sports Club.

The article was about CSU-Pueblo student Lauren Dunsmoor, a cross-country athlete who placed No. 11 in the nation and has faced unique health and physical problems.

Sandstrom has won awards for his writing in the past. The CSU-Pueblo alumnus has won awards for his work with the Fountain Valley News and several for CSU-Pueblo.

Sandstrom said that he won the award for Dunsmoor. The article “Dunsmoor Feels The Pressure” chronicled her accomplishments, and Sandstrom said he felt that she deserved it.
