Mayan speaker to revisit doomsday controversy

Mayan elder Miguel Angel Chiquin will return to CSU-Pueblo March 12 to discuss the controversy surrounding the Mayan calendar and its end date of Dec. 21.

The lecture is sponsored by Student Activities and the Abuelos y Abuelas de Pueblo Council. It will take place in the Occhiato University Center Underground from 7 to 9 p.m.

Chiquin is an unofficial ambassador of the Mayan people in the U.S. and is the founder of the Organization of Maya People in Exile in Florida. He frequently travels giving lectures and leading ceremonies of great importance to the Mayan culture. In fact, Chiquin recently lead a fire ceremony to bring in the Mayan New Year in Denver Feb. 22.

Chiquin visited CSU-Pueblo one year ago and spoke to a full auditorium in the Hasan School of Business. He explained that the doomsday prophecies associated with the calendar are false, and that the fifth and final cycle of the sun will begin and mark a new beginning for humanity, he said.

He will again speak about the upcoming date and what humanity can expect throughout the upcoming year leading up to the infamous date in December.

Prior to his return to the university, Chiquin will also speak at the Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 110 S. LaCrosse Ave., from 3-5 p.m. Entry is permitted by donation only. He will also be providing personal energy readings March 11 and 12 with a donation of $25 for a 20-minute reading.

During these readings, Chiquin will determine what a person’s four Mayan life energies are based on their birth date. Those that have already received their four life energies from a previous reading are encouraged to partake in another reading for any questions they may have and to receive additional guidance.

It is asked that no photos, video or audio recordings be taken during the lectures. Photos may be allowed with permission from Chiquin when the lecture has finished.
