If football games are not your forte and featured campus comedians don’t tickle you fancy then you should check out this week’s spoken word event.
Open Mic and Asia Project, hosted by Student Activities will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Underground of the Occhiato University Center.
Open Mic and Asia Project is an event that will be featuring poet Asia, who has been featured on BET’s “Lyric Café”, was a recipient of the 2011 Association of Promotion of Campus Activities “Spoken Word Artist of the Year” award and broke the record for most college booked poet with more than 185 college shows.
According to Paul D, who is proclaimed as 2007 National Poetry Slam Champion,“Asia is one of the most complete poets in the game today. His words are truth-tipped daggers.”
Patty Witkowsky, who is interim director of Student Leadership and Engagement, said this event is for all student but, “It will be of particular interest to those who enjoy poetry and culture. Asia, the artist, will also be including a special piece about September 1, since he will be here that day.”
Student Activities is still looking for students who are interested in participating in the event. Witkowsky said if you are interested to come to the event at 6 p.m. and sign up.
