Student Academic Services is offering free pizza, cookies and drinks to entice students to attend next week’s majors fair. The department is hosting the fair in its second year, said Pam Chambers, associate director.
The fair is scheduled to be held in the Occhiato University Center ballroom from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Wednesday. Along with free food, the department will be giving away door prizes, including an iPod Shuffle and several gift certificates.
Students must attend the fair to register for door prizes but do not have to be present during the drawing to win, Chambers said.
The fair is free to attend and all students are welcome, she said. Freshmen, undeclared students and those who are considering changing their major are especially encouraged to attend the fair. There are currently 378 undeclared students on-campus and registered for fall, Registrar Katie Velarde said.
Each of Colorado State University-Pueblo’s 21 academic departments will be represented at the fair by a faculty advisor. The advisors can answer any questions students may have about a particular major, Chambers said.
She said two of the university’s minor departments, Chicano Studies and ROTC, will also be represented at the fair.
Chambers said the event will give freshmen a chance to meet with faculty advisors in the major they’ve chosen.
“(It also) allows students to talk to faculty outside of the classroom,” she said.
Last year’s fair also offered snacks and drinks, Chambers said, and 163 students attended. She said she hopes to see 300 attend this year.
